FT QUEENS PARK FC – HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC
After narrowly falling short against St Johnstone last weekend, Hamilton travelled to the national
stadium as we looked to bounce back against in-form Queen’s Park.
John Rankin made three changes to his Accies side for this afternoon’s match, in came Oli
Shaw, as well as January signings Tony Gallacher and Scott Robinson, replacing O’Hara,
Hendrie, and McGowan.
As for our hosts, they opted for just one change to the XI that beat Rangers at Ibrox last time
out.
KICK-OFF
Hamilton started the game with intent and took the lead within five minutes. Oli Shaw found
himself one one-on-one with the goalkeeper inside the box, his chipped effort struck the post,
only for debutante Scott Robinson to slot in the rebound and put Accies ahead.
The early Accies onslaught continued and our lead was doubled moments later. A wicked
Connor Smith delivery into the centre of the box was met by Ricki Lamie who fired his header
into the far corner, extending Hamilton’s advantage.
The following stages saw Queen’s Park looking for a response as they began to establish
themselves in the match, on the other hand, Hamilton’s defence was holding strong whilst
looking threatening on the counter-attack.
Soon after Queens Park saw their first major chance of the match. Zak Rudden was slotted
through on goal, however, he could only drag his effort wide of the far post.
The remainder of the first half saw little goalmouth action, as we headed into the break with the
lead.
SECOND HALF
Accies started the second half in the same vein, seeing the majority of possession as we looked
for a third goal.
Largely against the run of play, Queens Park had a goal back. In the 60th minute, the ball fell
nicely to Sean Welsh on the edge of the box whose effort struck the post and deflected past
Lyness.
Moments later Accies had a huge opportunity to reinstate a two-goal advantage. The ball was
played through to Oli Shaw who found himself in space, unfortunately, his curling effort was met
by a miraculous save from Ferrie.
In the 77th minute, Hamilton created another massive chance to put the game to bed.
MacDonald found himself in a similar position to Oli Shaw previously and yet again he was
denied by Ferrie.
The dying embers saw pressure from Queen’s Park as they looked for an equaliser, the Accies’
defence remained solid though to deny any chance of a comeback.
After a phenomenal display at Hampden, Accies take all three points.
