Shoppers at Asda Hamilton dug deep to support Hamilton Accies Community Trust’s weekly foodbank over the May bank holiday weekend.
Working in conjunction with the Children’s Charity Blameless, hundreds of shoppers donated cash or non-perishable food items during their own shop.
The donation drive was so successful that over 20 huge boxes of food, including tins, cereal, pasta, rice, toiletries and baby goods was gathered.
The charity also took in over £330 in cash, which will be used over the coming weeks to purchase more stock for the community foodbank.
Jim Cuthbertson, of Hamilton Accies Community Trust, said: “We cannot thank people enough for the generous donations to our foodbank – it is hugely appreciated by all of us at Accies and of course by those who use our free weekly service.
“We even had people make donations who had previously been in receipt of a foodbank’s help, so it was lovely to see those people back on their feet and able and willing to help others.
“A big thank you also to Gillian and Mary, the Community Champions, at Asda Hamilton and Blantyre respectively who organised and helped out at the event, as well as our volunteers from Accies Community Trust for giving up their time also.”
Hamilton Accies community foodbank is open every Thursday from 12pm to 3pm within the Northstand of the ZLX Stadium at Cadzow Avenue, Hamilton.
No referral is needed and people can also enjoy a cup of tea/coffee, hot soup and a roll on the day.
