FT QUEEN OF THE SOUTH FC 1-4 HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC

Following an impressive start to the season against Montrose, Accies were on the road for the first time this season as they took on Queen of the South at Palmerston Park. John Rankin named an unchanged XI for this afternoon’s match, looking to replicate last weekend’s success.

As for our hosts, they opted for just one change to the side that beat Cove Rangers 0-2 seven days ago.

KICK-OFF

Hamilton started on the front foot and dominated possession in the opening 15 minutes despite a lack of clear cut opportunities. Accies created the first major chance of the match in the 27th minute as Scott Robinson laid the ball off to Kevin O’Hara inside the box, unfortunately O’Hara couldn’t get enough bend into his strike to trouble Stewart.

Hamilton opened the scoring soon after as Connor Smith tried his luck from 35 yards out, whipping the ball sensationally over Stewart and into the far corner to give Accies the lead.

Moments later Oli Shaw found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, his eventual effort went high and wide keeping the deficit at one. Accies were in no mood to let up and in the 34th minute Stephen Bradley unleashed a powerful effort which was parried by Stewart who then made a fantastic stop to deny Oli Shaw on the follow up.

Hamilton continued to apply pressure and were inches away from making it 0-2 as Scott Robinson slid the ball across to Oli Shaw inside the six yard box but his effort was phenomenally saved by Stewart once more.

In the 38th minute Accies doubled their advantage as the ball fell to Trialist A who unleashed an absolute rocket on the half volley from long range which flew into the top corner leaving Stewart with no chance.

SECOND HALF

Queen of the South started the second half well and pulled one back almost immediately as the ball was floated across the box and met Reece Lyon who headed home to make it 1-2.

In the 53rd minute Hamilton regained their two goal advantage as Connor Smith found himself in space on the edge of the box and curled his shot superbly into the far corner for his second goal of the afternoon.

Eight minutes later Accies had the ball in the net again as Stephen Bradley found himself through on goal and cut inside before slotting a composed finish past Stewart to make it 1-4.

An exceptional performance in Dumfries saw Hamilton make it two wins from two in League
One.
