FT PETERHEAD FC 2-2 HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC
After an impressive victory against East Kilbride last weekend, Hamilton looked to make it two wins on the bounce as they travelled up north to take on Peterhead.
John Rankin made one change to his Accies XI for this afternoon’s match as Stuart McKinstry replaced Ewan Simpson.
As for our hosts, they opted for five changes to the side that beat Dundee United B 3-0 in the Challenge Cup seven days ago.
KICK-OFF
Hamilton started on the front foot and almost took the lead inside four minutes as Scott Robinson’s low ball into the box found its way to Stewart McKinstry who lashed it towards goal striking the woodwork.
Peterhead came close soon after as the ball was cut back to Shanks just outside the Accies six yard box, luckily he couldn’t find the target as the ball sailed by the post. In the 30th minute Peterhead took the lead. After chaos in the Accies box the ball fell to McGuffie who fired the ball past Jamie Smith into the bottom corner.
Hamilton almost found the leveller five minutes later as the ball was threaded through to Oli Shaw who one-on-one with the goalkeeper couldn’t drive his shot far enough into the corner to trouble Jack Newman.
On the stroke of halftime Hamilton found the equaliser. Stuart McKinstry’s sublime low driven cross was met by Oli Shaw at the backpost who made no mistake with the finish.
SECOND HALF
Early in the second half Peterhead took the lead. A ferocious strike from Cammy Smith at the edge of the box left Jamie Smith with no chance.
Hamilton threatened to level in the 72nd minute as Connor Smith drove forward and tried his luck from the edge of the box sending his effort just wide of the near post.
With 10 minutes to play Accies thought they should’ve had a penalty as Scott Robinson was tripped in the box, unfortunately the referee saw it the opposite way awarding the home side a free kick.
In the 88th minute Hamilton made it 2-2! A phenomenal long range curling strike from Stuart McKinstry flew past Newman into the far corner.
Stuart McKinstry’s late goal was enough to salvage a point for Accies as the match finishedtwo goals a piece.
