FT HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC 2-1 FALKIRK FC

After picking up a crucial victory against Dunfermline on Tuesday, Hamilton looked to make it
consecutive wins as we took on table-toppers Falkirk at New Douglas Park.

John Rankin made just one change to his Accies side for today’s match with Connor Smith
replacing Jamie Barjonas.

As for our visitors they opted for two changes to the XI that beat Greenock Morton 0-2 last
Friday.

KICK-OFF

After a cagey start to the match Falkirk were awarded a dangerous free kick on the edge of the
Accies box. The set piece was struck by Calvin Miller and despite his best efforts, Lyness came
up with a fantastic save to keep the score level.

In the 20th minute Falkirk took the lead. Calvin Miller’s floating delivery into the box was met by
Liam Henderson at the back post who made no mistake with the header. Falkirk had a huge chance to double their advantage soon after as Calvin Miller’s cut back found Brad Spencer, his powerful effort produced a great save from Lyness.

In the 36th minute Hamilton found an equaliser. The ball fell invitingly to Reghan Tumilty at the
edge of the box and his sublime long range effort left Hogarth with no chance.

Eight minutes later Hamilton took the lead. The ball was flashed across the box to an oncoming
Stuart McKinstry who blasted his shot into the far corner, completing a spectacular first half
comeback.

SECOND HALF

The opening stages of the second half were end-to-end with chances for both, however neither
team managed to impact the scoreline early on.

The following period of the match was dominated by Falkirk pressure as they looked to find an
equaliser. On a positive note, the Accies defence held strong and we looked like a real threat on
the counterattack.

Sure enough, it was a counterattack that provided Accies with their best chance of the second
half. In the 72nd minute, Steven Hendrie drove down the left hand side and swung a great cross
into the Falkirk penalty area which was cleared only as far as Kyle MacDonald whose shot
sailed narrowly by the post.

The final 15 minutes saw Falkirk throw everything at Accies in an attempt to salvage something
from the game, in the 90th minute they did just that. Alfredo Agyeman’s shot from the edge of
the box flew into the bottom corner making it 2-2 in the dying embers.

An almighty effort from both sides saw the points shared at New Douglas Park.
