FT HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC 0-4 HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN FC
After a flying start to the Premier Sports Cup group stages on Saturday afternoon, Hamilton’s
campaign continued as we took on Premiership Heart Of Midlothian at Broadwood.
John Rankin made two changes to his Accies XI for this evening’s game as Tony Gallagher
replaced Stephen Hendrie and Trialist C replaced Trialist A.
As for our visitors, they opted for seven changes to the side that beat Dunfermline 4-1 at
Tynecastle last weekend.
KICK-OFF
Hearts started well and took the lead within four minutes after a set piece delivery was met by
Stewart Findlay at the backpost who headed past Jamie Smith to put the visitors ahead.
Hearts almost had a second in the 18th minute as Alan Forrest tried his luck from range,
fortunately his effort flew past the far post and the deficit remained at one.
The following stages saw a cagey affair as both teams defended well but were unable to pose
much of an attacking threat.
As the first half drew to a close Oli Shaw found himself through on goal, however his first touch
was poor which saw Fulton smother the ball before the Accies front man had the chance to
shoot.
In the 44th minute Hearts doubled their advantage as the ball was played across the Accies six
yard box into the feet of Elton Kabangu who tapped home to make it 0-2.
After a disappointing first half, Hamilton went into the break with work to do.
SECOND HALF
The start of the second half saw the action become scrappy again as Accies searched for a
route back into the game.
The first major chance of the half came Hearts way though as in the 69th minute Claudio Braga
dribbled down the right hand side before sliding the ball across the Hamilton box into the feet of
James Wilson who scored to give the visitors a 0-3 lead.
In the 82nd minute Hearts added a fourth. Claudio Braga found himself with space inside the
Accies box and with the help of a deflection his shot flew past Jamie Smith into the bottom
corner.
Despite a competitive game against top opposition, Hearts took the points.
