FT HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC 3-1 INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC
After Oli Shaw and Kevin O’Hara sealed a fantastic 2-0 win over Stenhousemuir last weekend, Hamilton looked to make it three wins on the bounce as they hosted Inverness at Broadwood.
John Rankin made one change to his Accies XI for this afternoon’s match as Steven Bradley replaced Bobby McLuckie. As for our visitors they opted for one change to the side that beat East Fife 4-1 at the Caledonian Stadium seven days ago.
KICK-OFF
Hamilton started on the front foot and almost took the lead inside four minutes as Connor Smith’s long range strike forced Ross Munro into a finger tip save.
Accies threatened again 10 minutes later as Scott Robinson found space on the edge of the box and curled the ball towards goal, narrowly missing the bottom corner.
In the 22nd minute Hamilton found the breakthrough. Kevin O’Hara stole the ball from Daniel Devine leaving him with just the keeper to beat as he calmly finished into the bottom corner to put Accies ahead.
The remainder of the first half saw a scrappy affair as Inverness looked for a route back into the match despite Accies’ defensive resiliency.
Kevin O’Hara’s goal saw Hamilton go into the break with the advantage.
SECOND HALF
In the 62nd minute Inverness levelled the game. Alfie Bavidge found space on the right hand side of the box and whipped the ball into the far corner to equalise.
Moments later Hamilton responded through Kyle MacDonald who fired past Ross Munro from close range to put Accies back in front.
Inverness almost made it 2-2 in the 75th minute as the ball was chipped over the head of Jamie Smith towards the far corner but a miraculous goal line clearance from Cale Loughrey kept Accies ahead.
As the game drew to a close Inverness continued to pile on the pressure in pursuit of an equaliser but the Hamilton defence held strong to deny them.
In the dying embers Hamilton extended their advantage as Kevin O’Hara found Oli Shaw in the box and he slotted home to seal the points.
A formidable display saw Accies catapult to the top of League One.
