FT HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC 1-2 QUEEN OF THE SOUTH FC
After a fantastic 4-0 win over Montrose last weekend, Hamilton looked to make it five wins from five in League One as they took on Queen of the South at Broadwood.
John Rankin named an unchanged lineup for this evening’s match with nine of the 11 players who featured in our 4-1 victory in Dumfries earlier this season retaining their place. As for our visitors, they opted for three changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Peterhead seven days ago.
KICK-OFF
Queen of the South started positively and looked to break the deadlock inside two minutes as Brennan Dickenson’s header from close range sailed narrowly over the bar.
In the 18th minute, Queen of the South took the lead after a fortunate break on the edge of the Accies box allowed Jack Stott to find space and drive the ball across goal into the bottom corner.
Hamilton threatened to equalise moments later as Kevin O’Hara’s cross found Scott Robinson whose flicked header fell just wide of the far post. Accies had another chance to level the game in the 25th minute as Oli Shaw found himself through on goal but wasn’t able to find the finishing touch.
A disappointing first half saw Accies go into the break with work to do.
SECOND HALF
Hamilton started the second half brightly and almost found the equaliser in the 48th minute as Kevin O’Hara latched onto Steven Bradley’s pass in behind and fired the ball towards goal producing a strong save from Ross Stewart.
In the 67th minute Queen of the South doubled their advantage. Kai Kennedy’s looping ball towards the far post was fumbled by Jamie Smith and then inadvertently turned into the net by Cale Loughrey.
Five minutes later, Accies were back in the game as the ball fell to Connor Smith inside the box and he finished brilliantly to reduce the deficit.
The closing stages saw Hamilton throw everything at Queen of the South in search of an equaliser but unfortunately it wasn’t to be as the visitors took the points.
