FT HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC 1-2 EAST FIFE FC

After a dominant away win in Dumfries last weekend, Accies came into matchday three sitting top of the table as they took on Dick Campbell’s East Fife at Broadwood. John Rankin named an unchanged XI for this afternoon’s match, looking to replicate last weekend’s success.

As for our visitors they opted for four changes to the side that lost 0-1 to Alloa Athletic seven days ago.

KICK-OFF

Hamilton started on the front foot and nearly took the lead early on as Oli Shaw was played in behind the East Fife defence and tried his luck from a tight angle producing a good save from Adams at his near post.

Moments later, East Fife had a huge opportunity of their own as McKenna’s effort from just inside the box was saved by Jamie Smith who parried the ball into the path Trouten and on the follow up he was miraculously denied by Smith again. Accies had another chance in the 12th minute as the ball fell to Scott Robinson inside the box and he shot towards goal forcing another impressive stop from Adams.

In the 15th minute Hamilton opened the scoring as Scott Robinson once again found himself with space inside the box and in the action of bringing the ball down, he shot into the far corner finishing superbly on the turn to give Accies the lead.

Accies should have doubled their lead 15 minutes later as Stephen Hendrie delivered a pinpoint cross towards Oli Shaw but his close range effort sailed wide of the near post.

After a positive first half Hamilton went into the break with the advantage.

SECOND HALF

East Fife started the half well and won a penalty in the 47th minute. Alan Trouten stepped up to take it but was denied by a wonderful save from Jamie Smith.

Moments later East Fife found the leveller as a fizzing ball across the six yard box was met by Robert Jones at the backpost who tapped in to equalise.

East Fife continued to apply pressure and just two minutes later they took the lead as Sam Culbert laid the ball off to Robert Jones who cut inside and finished calmly at the near post for his second goal of the afternoon.

In the 63rd minute Accies came close to an equaliser as Kyle MacDonald found Steven Bradley on the edge of the box and he unleashed a powerful effort towards goal which was parried by Adams then cleared.

Hamilton continued to push for an equaliser and spent the final 20 mins of the game on top but despite their best efforts couldn’t find the finishing touch.

A disappointing afternoon at Broadwood saw East Fife take the points.
