FT HAMILTON ACADEMICAL FC 0-1 DUMBARTON FC
After a tough night in Dunfermline on Tuesday, Hamilton looked to finish their Premier Sports
Cup campaign on a high as they took on League Two side Dumbarton at Broadwood Stadium.
John Rankin made six changes to his Accies XI for this afternoon’s match which saw starts for
youngsters Aaron Eadie and Josh Carson.
As for our visitors, they opted for six changes to the team that lost 4-0 at Tynecastle earlier this
week.
KICK-OFF
The first chance to open the scoring came Dumbarton’s way inside 11 minutes as a dangerous
ball into the box met the head of McIntosh but his effort was comfortably saved by the Hamilton
goalkeeper. Moments later Accies had a chance of their own as Oli Shaw tried his luck from range,
producing a great save from Ecrepont.
Accies continued to push for the opener as Oli Shaw made a fantastic run down the left hand
side, however, his shot from a tight angle was well saved again by Ecrepont. On the stroke of half time Dumbarton took the lead. A mistake from Hamilton saw the ball fall to Ally Roy who chipped the ball over the Accies goalkeeper and into the far corner.
After a disappointing end to the first half, Hamilton went into the break with work to do.
SECOND HALF
Accies started the second half on the front foot and almost equalised as Connor Smith went on
a sublime solo run before his eventual effort was saved by Ecrepont who then beat Oli Shaw to
the follow up.
The following stages saw a cagey affair as Hamilton looked for a way back into the game
despite Dumbarton staying solid. In the 73rd minute, Accies threatened again as McKinstry flashed the ball across the box and it deflected out to Scott Robinson, unfortunately his shot flew over the bar.
Moments later Accies had another opportunity through Kevin O’Hara who found himself in
space just inside the box and unleashed a curling effort which went narrowly wide of the far
post.
Despite an improved second half performance, Hamilton’s Premier Sports Cup campaign ended
in defeat.
